About the Author

My name is Selene Gentzler.

Also known as Cheyenne’s mom, Shaina’s mom, Trilby’s mom, Tailyn’s mom, Ian’s mom and Mrs. G, and then add to the titles galore, Volley Blogging Mom.

I am not an expert by any means but I would say I am definitely experienced with over 11 years of volleyball which includes a mix of homeschool league, outdoor, middle school, high school, collegiate, and competitive club volleyball from the YMCA to elite National Championship winning clubs. Being immersed in the sport that my children love often requires a parent to become a student of the industry with the added degrees in Business and Marketing and a Masters in Education, it is amazing how all the things one would ask if they are ever going to use comes to find you when kids are seeking their dreams and goals.

The mission of Volley Blogging Mom is to take the experience, knowledge and adventures our family has journeyed through in past decade plus and share it with others.

Many times parents and athletes are just not aware of nuances and information about the industry and recruiting process that mistakes are made without knowing they are making them.

The first part of that adventure is my first book Club Volleyball 101(http://bit.ly/ClubVolleyball101),which is available on Ibooks, Amazon and Barnes and Noble to name a few. It describes the basics of club volleyball for the athlete and the parent to give them a feel of what they can expect from choosing a club to tryouts to some of what goes on during the club season.

The Recruiting Buddy Jr.(http://bit.ly/RecruitBuddyJr) ,which you are taking the online version of, hopes to do the same thing in helping create a guideline of information and activities to help the athlete and parent navigate the recruiting process, stay organized, and hopefully achieve the optimal outcomes. It is just like working out to get that summer body or even a body that fits into your favorite clothes, to find the right fit of college academically (this should ALWAYS come first), athletically where it is like Match.com to find a coach that wants you and a team/coach that the player wants, and then crunching the numbers to be sure that financially it is the best option for you and your family.

It is definitely a process but one worth investing the time and effort into.

To date I have two who have completed her collegiate college experience. And although there were rough spots along the way and times she was ready to quit, I am sure she would tell you today it was one of the best experiences ever. She would also say enjoy every ball, practice and game because she truly misses the game today. My second one attended a top 25 Division 3 school, sustained an ACL injury, went through surgery, and was part of the team that played in a semi-final match for the NCAA Division 3 championships.

Please do not panic there are so many pages. It’s meant to be a workbook type of approach to use throughout the season. No one looks at a school agenda and freaks out because there is a bunch of homework that will be due. You take it day by day and week by week. Same principle applies. The Recruiting Buddy is to help you stay organized and be sure you stay on top of the opportunities that present during the season.

So please use this tool.

And wishing you the very best play in every game and the ultimate best in finding where your volleyball journey is going to take you.
